a healthy state funded by 80%, but the plus side if they have an unlimited ability to raise taxes. it was really written in there. they can go ahead and tax away to solve the problem. has that worked for california? a limited ability to solve this pension problem. what do you think? >> in california we are very excited to not be the worst anymore. running around the state capital building we are 49. that is at least good news for us. raising taxes now that the marginal tax rate is topping up 13.3% for the richest californians there: accountants in droves finding ways to move their money and we are looking at unfunded pension liability maybe not as bad off, but $181 billion? melissa: i love you, jonathan, but he was so entertaining. going on to say they believe legislative consensus will be difficult to achieve given the poor track record of the past two years. in other words, may have the ability to tax until kingdom come but i don't think they will reform the pension, which they raised taxes in the past and they didn't spend the money to fix the problem. they just spend it. jona

, april 15th. not just tax filing day but the date by which congress has promised to adopt a budget resolution. they even this time stake their pay on it, agreeing to reach a deal or face suspension of their paychecks until they reach a deal. that might just be enough of a carrot to make them actually present a budget that takes on our a bah looning deficit. but that battle may make the recent battle over tax hikes for the rich seem like a friendly game of badminton. big spending cuts are needed and they will hit americans where it hurts -- in their entitlements. i'm talking about health care, medicare, social security. president obama emboldened by his re-election has already drawn his so-called line in the sand. now republicans have to come to the proverbial table. perhaps the most powerful republican in washington, eric cantor, says he and his fellow republicans will have a plan and they are ready to deal. >> i think it's important that we be here as members of the u.s. congress. there are six of us who are here. really interested in the discussion about the global economy. obvio

taxes, paying a penalty, learning english, and then going to the back of the line behind all the folks who are trying to come here legally. that's only fair. >> and i'll have commentary on that in a moment. i'm not all on board with it. it sounds good, but the path to earn citizenship has a lot of supporters in congress. in fact, it's the same path outlined by the group of senators. president obama's plan has a few more specifics. the path to citizenship is not contingent on meeting security triggers like additional border security and unmanned drones. it calls for improvements to immigration courts. and it requires the same visa rights for same-sex couples as everyone else. now, these minor differences cause some grandstanding from republican senator marco rubio out of florida today. rubio intends to make this issue political. >> if this endeavor becomes a bidding war to see who can come up with the easiest, quickest, and cheapest pathway to greencard possible, this thing is not going to go well, folks. >> of course there is really only one place for republicans to go when they want t

on rye kind of what we're seeing. here is one thing that we're watching. the payroll tax increase didn't bother us when the price of gasoline was down. but over the past few weeks, we've seen the price of gas go up by anywhere from 30 to -- 25 to 35 cents per gallon. that really puts an impact on $20 a week for 50,000 in income. that price in gasoline really was going to make double hit behind the increase in payroll taxes. >> that is an interesting point. i hadn't really thought about that. when it comes to the jobs number on friday, kevin, tell me what you think the market is looking for? what would be really good news and what would be look out? >> they want it big. the guys are going to probably pull bids out and put up some shorts going into it. i'd watch for an air pocket down. my own opinion is i think you'll see a number finally over 250. we're overdue for that number. and -- >> the dawn of february 1st? >> they don't have time to cook the books by february 1st on that, do they? huh? >> it's friday. >> they're supposed to be good at it, i don't know. >> well, they are -- >> i t
